This project was an extensive remodel of an existing 3500 SF home, originally built in the 1960s. The home is located on a one acre site with expansive views of the bay. The existing structure, with distinct mid-century lines, showed promise but was greatly in need of an upgrade. While the floor plan worked somewhat, too many walls prevented an uninterupted appreciation of the site and views. In the new design, the public spaces (kitchen, living, dining)- all previously separate rooms, were combined into one, large great room with sweeping views on three sides. In addition to opening the plan, the design involved a careful selection of sustainable materials and finishes that would complement, rather than compete with, the surrounding colors and textures of the natural features outside.
